Harold Sakuishi, real name Takahiro Sakuishi, is a Japanese mangaka born on March 16, 1969, in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
Sakuishi’s biggest influences on his career were his hobbies, including baseball, martial arts and MMA, as well as music. Among others, he is a huge fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Sakuishi started his career with one of his biggest hits, “Gorillaman”, serialized from 1988 to 1992 and published in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, which specializes in Seinen manga. Other works such as “Bakaichi” and “Stopper Busujima” followed until 1998, and from February 2000 to June 2008, Kodansha serialized his most successful manga to date: “Beck”.
Apart from writing manga, he has won several awards for his works. For example, he won the 14th Kodansha Manga Award in the general category (all genres) for “Gorillaman” in 1990 and the 26th Kodansha Manga Award in the shounen category for “Beck” in 2002.
