Yagami Light hat sein Ziel erreicht und wird von L persönlich gebeten bei den Ermittlungen des Kira-Falls zu helfen. Damit scheint es fast ausgeschlossen, dass Yagami noch zu stoppen ist. Er kann jetzt jeden Schritt von L beobachten. Alles was ihn jetzt fehlt, ist Ls richtiger Name. Doch plötzlich wird Yagamis Plan durch das Auftauchen eines »zweiten Kiras« durcheinander gebracht. Der Popstar Misa Amane findet das zweite Death Note und tut nun alles, um Kira zu treffen, den sie fanatisch verehrt. Kira hat den Mörder ihrer Familie, der im Prozess für unschuldig erklärt wurde, getötet. Wird Kira das zu seinem Vorteil nutzen können, oder ist die Gefahr seiner Entlarvung durch ein Treffen zu groß? Wie auch immer er sich entscheidet, der finale Showdown zwischen L und Kira bahnt sich an.
