Tatsuya Shiba ist ein Schüler der Magierschule First High School und zählt dort zu den schlechteren Schülern, da er nicht mit besonderen Kräften gesegnet ist. Auch seine Schwester Miyuki besucht diese Schule, doch lässt sie sich keineswegs mit ihrem Bruder vergleichen, da sie als beste Schülerin des neuen Jahrgangs zu den ausgezeichneten Schülern zählt.
