Nekomonogatari: Cat Tale (2010)

It’s Golden Week, and Koyomi Araragi is trying to lead an ordinary life, having survived a vampire attack only a short time ago. Now, he is also struggling with harbouring feelings for his classmate Tsubasa Hanekawa – or is it just desire, after all? He seeks advice from his sister Tsukihi, of all people, but her answer doesn’t help him out of his misery either.

But when he meets Tsubase on the way to the bookshop, he realises things are not going well for the good girl. Her parents have died, and her step-parents – especially her stepfather – treat her terribly, if they pay any attention to her at all. However, as Meme Oshino is also worried about her, Koyomi soon looks into the matter and finds out that the affair is not only more complicated than expected but also supernatural …

Annotation:
The second volume, called “White”, takes place several months after the first volume, called “Black”, and tells more of Tsubasa’s experiences, with her as the narrator. The volume received its anime adaptation with the first five episodes of “Monogatari Series: Second Season”.

Es ist Golden Week und Koyomi Araragi versucht, ein Leben als normaler Mensch zu führen, denn hat erst vor Kurzem einen Vampirangriff überstanden. Nun schlägt er sich auch damit herum, Gefühle für seine Mitschülerin Tsubasa Hanekawa zu hegen – oder ist es doch nur Verlangen? Ausgerechnet bei seiner Schwester Tsukihi sucht er Rat, doch deren Antwort hilft ihm auch nicht aus der Misere.

Als er auf Tsubase aber auf dem Weg zum Buchladen begegnet, muss er merken, dass es um die Gute nicht zum Besten steht. Ihre Eltern sind verstorben, ihre Stiefeltern – vor allem ihr Stiefvater – behandeln sie furchtbar, sofern sie überhaupt beachtet wird. Da jedoch Meme Oshino ihretwegen ebenfalls besorgt ist, geht Koyomi der Sache bald nach und stellt fest, dass die Angelegenheit nicht nur komplizierter ist als erwartet, sondern auch ziemlich übernatürlich …

Anmerkung:
Der zweite Band, »White« genannt, spielt etliche Monate nach dem »Black« genannten ersten Band und erzählt weitere Erlebnisse von Tsubasa mit ihr als Erzählerin. Der Band erhielt mit den ersten fünf Folgen von »Monogatari Series: Second Season« eine Anime-Adaption.
