Gaina Co., Ltd., formerly known as Fukushima Gainax, is a former branch of the animation studio Gainax Co., Ltd. in Fukushima and is now a subsidiary of the Kinoshita Group based in Tokyo. It was founded in January 2015 by Yoshinori Asao and opened an animation studio in June of the same year.
Fukushima Gainax was originally opened as a museum in Fukushima. The exhibition showcased different (working) areas of the company, such as management, product development and event management. There was also a workshop in the museum.
On July 26, 2018, the Kinoshita Group acquired 100% of the company. The following August 9, the company was renamed Gaina or Studio Gaina and relocated to Tokyo. The name Fukushima Gainax has since been reused and utilised for various projects, such as the museum mentioned above.
