Der Bandenkrieg mit den Gelben Schalen scheint beigelegt und auch die Dollars bleiben ruhig. Tagein, tagaus verlaufen die Wege der Bewohner Ikebukuros wie dünne rote Fäden durch die Stadt: mal nebeneinander ohne Berührung, mal kreuzen sie sich schicksalhaft und verstricken sich zu einem unentwirrbaren Netz. Im Zentrum dieses Netzes stehen Mikado Ryuugamine und Anri Sonohara sowie die kopflose Reiterin Celty Sturluson und ihr Liebster Shinra Kishitani.
