Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise (1987)

Although technology exists in the Kingdom of Honneamise, it is not yet fully developed. There are aeroplanes, cars and even spaceships, but there is room for improvement. Shirotsugh “Shiro” Lhadatt is a member of the Space Force, a space project that is not progressing and has been stagnant for some time, mainly because no one volunteers to be “shot” into space. Shiro’s childhood dream was always to become an Air Force pilot. However, he wasn’t good enough, and thus, he ended up in the Space Force, where he led a rather boring life doing basically nothing.

But that all changes when, one day, he meets Riquinni, a young missionary from a little-known religion. He falls in love with her and is infected by her zeal. He volunteers as an astronaut, and the project takes its course, but the Kingdom has its own plans for the space programme …

In Honneamise gibt es zwar Technik, doch ist diese noch nicht gänzlich ausgereift. Es gibt Flugzeuge, Autos und sogar Raumschiffe, aber alles ist noch ausbaufähig. Shirotsugh »Shiro« Lhadatt ist bei der Space Force, einem Raumfahrtprojekt, das allerdings nicht vorankommt und seit einiger Zeit stagniert, vor allem, weil sich niemand freiwillig ins All schießen lässt. Shiros Kindheitstraum war es immer, Pilot bei der Luftwaffe zu werden, aber er war nicht gut genug und so landete er bei der Space Force, wo er ein ziemlich langweiliges Leben führt und im Grunde nichts tut.

Doch das ändert sich, als er eines Tages Riquinni, einer jungen Missionarin einer wenig verbreiteten Religion, begegnet. Er verliebt sich in sie und lässt sich von ihrem Eifer anstecken. Er meldet sich freiwillig als Astronaut und das Projekt nimmt seinen Lauf, doch das Kaiserreich verfolgt mit dem Raumfahrtprogramm ganz eigene Pläne …
