Mew Mew Power (2002)

“Mew Mew Power” is about a sweet schoolgirl, Zoey Hanson, who thought she was having the best day of her life. She has met up with her secret crush, Mark, for a date. However, their date takes a completely different course than planned, as she is hit by a mysterious ray and falls asleep – the last thing she sees in front of her: a visionary cat entering her body.

The very next morning, she notices that something is wrong with her. Since this incident, Zoey has been acting more and more like a cat herself. She finds out that it’s all part of the so-called “µ Project” and that she has gained the abilities of an Iriomote wildcat. Equipped with a pink battle dress and cat ears, Zoey is supposed to fight against the evil “Chimeras” – animals infested with alien parasites – as Mew Ichigo and thus save the world from its doom. At her side are four other young women: Corina Bucksworth as Mew Mint, Bridget Verdant as Mew Lettuce, Kikki Benjamin as Mew Pudding and Renée Roberts as Mew Zakuro. Will the five Magical Girls manage to save the earth from its end at the hands of the Chimeras?

In »Mew Mew Power« geht es um die süße Schülerin Ichigo Momomiya, die dachte sie würde den schönsten Tag ihres Lebens haben. Sie hat sich nämlich mit ihrem heimlichen Schwarm, Masaya Aoyama, auf eine Verabredung getroffen. Doch das Date nimmt einen ganz anderen Verlauf als geplant, denn sie wird von einem mysteriösen Strahl getroffen und schläft ein – das letzte, was sie vor sich sah: eine Vision einer Katze, die in ihren Körper eintrat.

Schon am nächsten Morgen merkt sie, dass irgendetwas nicht mit ihr stimmt. Seit diesem Vorfall hat Ichigo sich immer mehr wie eine Katze benommen. Sie findet heraus, dass das alles ein Teil des »µ-Projekt« ist und sie die Fähigkeiten einer Iriomote-Wildkatze erlangt hat. Mit rosarotem Kampfkleid und Katzenohren ausgestattet, soll Ichigo als »Mew Ichigo« gegen die fiesen »Chimären« – von Alien-Parasiten befallene Tiere – kämpfen und so die Welt vor ihrem Untergang bewahren. An ihrer Seite stehen vier andere junge Frauen: Mint Aizawa als »Mew Mint«, Lettuce Midorikawa als »Mew Lettuce«, Pudding Fong als »Mew Pudding« und Zakuro Fujiwara als »Mew Zakuro«. Werden die fünf Magical Girls es schaffen, die Erde vor ihrem Ende durch die Chimären zu retten?
