Perrine Monogatari (1978)

Yugoslavia a principios del siglo XIX: después de la muerte de su padre que es un fotógrafo francés, Perrine convence a su madre que viene de la India, para que emigren a Francia. Allí la medio huérfana quiere buscar a su abuelo para encontrar un nuevo hogar con él. Así que las dos emprendieron el viaje hacia Francia en un carro tirado por un burro. Tienen que superar muchos obstáculos y sufrir muchos disgustos, y como Perrine se entera de su madre, no es seguro que la acogida allí vaya a ser amable.

Perrine travels across Europe with her mother, a photographer, in a cabin lead by a donkey. They are heading to a small village in north France, the home of Perrine’s dead father. Perrine doesn’t know that they are unwanted in the village, since the father left the village after having quarrelled with his father, and married in India against his father’s will. After her mother falls ill, Perrine has to sell everything, including her beloved donkey Palikare, to pay for medicine. Mother dies in Paris, and before dying tells the girl that she has to make her grandfather love her before he knows who she really is. After a journey full of hardships, Perrine finally arrives in the village, where she learns that her grandfather is the rich owner of the factory that feeds all the villagers. Presenting herself by a false name, Perrine gets a job on the factory, searching for a way to the heart of her grandfather.

Jugoslawien zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts: Nachdem der Vater, ein französischer Fotograf, stirbt, überredet Perrine ihre Mutter, die aus Indien stammt, nach Frankreich auszuwandern. Dort will die kleine Halbwaise ihren Großvater suchen, um bei ihm ein neues Zuhause zu finden. So machen sich die beiden mit einem Pferdewagen, der von einem Esel gezogen wird, auf die beschwerliche Reise nach Frankreich. Sie müssen dabei viele Hindernisse überwinden und erleiden auch so manchen Rückschlag und wie Perrine von ihrer Mutter erfahren muss, ist es auch nicht sicher, ob der Empfang dort freundlich ausfallen wird.
