Over the Sky (2020)

Mio and Arata have been friends since childhood, and yet there are always little misunderstandings as their feelings for each other have changed over time. A trivial occasion is enough to upset Mio so much that she leaves her boyfriend, flees home to her room and ignores his calls. Gripped by remorse, she later sets off on her bicycle in the pouring rain to apologise to him.

That’s when the fateful accident happens, and she finds herself transported into a world that seems both strange and familiar to her. Her stuffed animal, which suddenly begins to speak, introduces itself as her protector and guide in this strange world and tells her that she now has nothing to fear in this otherworldly realm. But that must be a mistake! No, a mistake is impossible. Nevertheless, there is a way to return to the old world: if she remembers exactly the most important things she still has to do and reports this at the lost property desk, she will receive a ticket with which she can travel back. But Mio’s memory is fading visibly. She wanted to tell Arata something urgently, she knows that … but what was it again?

Seit ihrer Kindheit sind Mio und Arata miteinander befreundet, und dennoch kommt es immer wieder zu kleinen Missverständnissen, da sich mit der Zeit ihre Gefühle füreinander verändert haben. Ein nichtiger Anlass genügt, um Mio derart aufzubringen, dass sie ihren Freund stehenlässt, nach Hause auf ihr Zimmer flüchtet und seine Anrufe ignoriert. Von Reue gepackt, macht sie sich später im strömenden Regen mit dem Fahrrad auf den Weg zu ihm, um sich zu entschuldigen.

Da geschieht das verhängnisvolle Unglück, und sie findet sich in eine Welt versetzt, die ihr fremd und vertraut zugleich vorkommt. Ihr Stofftier, das auf einmal zu sprechen beginnt, stellt sich als ihr Beschützer und Führer in dieser seltsamen Welt vor und erklärt ihr, dass sie in diesem jenseitigen Reich nun nichts mehr zu befürchten habe. Aber das muss doch ein Irrtum sein! Nein, Irrtum ausgeschlossen. Einen Weg, wieder in die alte Welt zurückzukehren, gibt es dennoch: Wenn sie sich genau an das Wichtigste erinnert, das sie noch zu erledigen hat, und das am Fundsachenschalter meldet, erhält sie eine Fahrkarte, mit der sie wieder zurückreisen kann. Aber die Erinnerung von Mio schwindet zusehends. Sie wollte Arata dringend noch etwas mitteilen, das weiß sie … aber was war es denn noch gleich?
