Hao Ren doesn’t have it easy: at 23, he has neither a job nor a girlfriend. Money is also tight because his house is far away from the action, so the idea of renting out empty rooms has not borne fruit so far – despite the flyers with directions that he has specially made and distributed. When he is in town for a job interview, he meets Lily, who is looking for a place to stay and happens to have one of these flyers in her hand. To Ren’s relief, the two quickly agree.

But his luck is probably of the bizarre variety: not only are the two promptly attacked by a vampire lady on their way home, but it also turns out that Lily is a werewolf, which is why a fight breaks out immediately. When Ren and Lily arrive home, they find out the reason: the vampire lady Vivian is also looking for a room and only wanted to save Ren from a werewolf attack. The misunderstanding is quickly cleared up, and there are now two tenants. Unfortunately, the two of them continue to quarrel quite a lot, so Ren’s furnishings suffer a lot of damage.

At least the job search might soon be over because Ren receives an invitation to a job interview. The offer, however, is as strange as the woman who makes it to him: as a new official of the Authority for Space and Time, he is to take in other supernatural beings as tenants in addition to Lily and Vivian and also look after them – and that is just the beginning. One thing is certain: Ren no longer needs to hope for existence as an ordinary landlord …

In July 2020, a version with a Japanese setting was also released, in which various characters were given Japanese names accordingly; for example, Hao Ren was renamed Yoshihito.

Hao Ren hat’s nicht leicht: Mit seinen 23 Jahren hat er weder eine Arbeit noch eine Freundin. Das Geld wird auch knapp, denn sein Haus liegt weit ab vom Schuss, sodass die Idee, leerstehende Zimmer zu vermieten, bislang keine Früchte getragen hat – trotz der Flyer mit Wegbeschreibung, die er extra angefertigt und verteilt hat. Als er aufgrund eines Vorstellungsgesprächs in der Stadt ist, trifft er auf Lily, die nach einer Bleibe sucht und zufälligerweise einen solchen Flyer in der Hand hält. Zu Rens Erleichterung werden sich die beiden schnell einig.

Doch sein Glück ist wohl eher von der bizarren Sorte: Nicht nur, dass die beiden auf dem Heimweg prompt von einer Vampirdame überfallen werden, es zeigt sich auch, das Lily ein Werwolf ist, weshalb augenblicklich ein Kampf ausbricht. Zu Hause angekommen erfahren Ren und Lily dann den Grund: Die Vampirdame Vivian sucht ebenfalls ein Zimmer und wollte Ren lediglich vor einem Werwolf-Angriff bewahren. Das Missverständnis ist schnell geklärt und so gibt es nun schon zwei Mieter. Leider streiten sich die beiden weiterhin recht gern, sodass Rens Einrichtung so manchen Schaden erleidet.

Wenigstens die Arbeitssuche könnte sich bald erledigt haben, denn Ren erhält eine Einladung zum Bewerbungsgespräch. Das Angebot ist jedoch so sonderbar wie die Frau, die es ihm unterbreitet: Als neuer Beamter der Behörde für Raum und Zeit soll er zusätzlich zu Lily und Vivian noch weitere übernatürliche Wesen als Mieter aufnehmen und auch auf diese aufpassen – und das ist erst der Anfang. Eins steht jedenfalls fest: Auf ein Dasein als normaler Vermieter braucht Ren nicht mehr zu hoffen …

Anmerkung:
Im Juli 2020 wurde auch eine Version mit japanischer Vertonung veröffentlicht, bei der diverse Figuren entsprechend japanische Namen erhalten haben; zum Beispiel wurde Hao Ren in Yoshihito umbenannt.
