Queen's Blade (2009)

Every four years, the new queen of the land that rules the continent is chosen in a grand tournament in the capital city of Gainos. Angels like Nanael have the task of identifying the various participants in this contest, known as the “Queen’s Blade”. The Angels document their fights, whereby they are assigned the role of impartial observers. The all-female contestants, on the other hand, come from a wide variety of countries and backgrounds to engage in a fight to the death, where almost anything goes, in the hope of winning the title. This year’s contenders include the young warrior Reina, who would actually be the direct heir to the throne of the royal house of Vance but is fed up with her boring life as a simple noblewoman. But she is not the only talented and lightly dressed fighter who dares to enter the arena …

Alle vier Jahre wird die neue Königin des Landes, das über den Kontinent gebietet, in einem großen Turnier in der Hauptstadt Gainos bestimmt. Engel wie Nanael haben dann die Aufgabe, die diversen Teilnehmer dieses als »Queen’s Blade« bekannten Wettstreits ausfindig zu machen und deren Kämpfe zu dokumentieren, wobei ihnen die Rolle eines unparteiischen Beobachters zugewiesen wird. Die ausschließlich weiblichen Teilnehmer hingegen kommen aus den unterschiedlichsten Ländern und Gesellschaftsschichten, um sich in der Hoffnung auf den Titel einen Kampf auf Leben und Tod zu liefern, bei dem fast alles erlaubt ist. Zu den diesjährigen Anwärtern zählt unter anderem die junge Kriegerin Reina, die zwar eigentlich die direkte Thronerbin des Königshauses Vance wäre, aber das langweilige Leben als einfache Adlige satthat. Doch sie ist nicht die einzige begabte und leicht bekleidete Kämpferin, die sich in die Arena wagt …
