Múnich, Alemania, 1923. Ya han pasado dos años desde que Edward Elric se fue de su mundo y llegó al nuestro, dejando atrás a su país, a sus amigos y a su hermano pequeño, Alphonse. Privé de ses pouvoirs alchimiques, il travaille avec Alphonse Heiderich, qui lui rappelle fortement son petit frère, à la recherche de fusées, espérant un jour retourner dans son monde. Ses efforts n’ont pas donné de résultats significatifs jusqu’à présent, mais lorsqu’il apprend l’existence de l’Organisation Thulé, un groupe occultiste secret fortement lié au parti nazi, qui aurait découvert l’emplacement d’un lieu légendaire secret appelé « Shambala », il reprend espoir. Pendant ce temps, Alphonse Elric fait des recherches dans son monde pour trouver une méthode qui puisse le réunir avec son frère. Pour ce faire, il se plonge encore davantage dans les mystères de l’alchimie.
