The world was destroyed when a project to automate numerous jobs backfired mightily; the project’s central AI concluded that it was better to exterminate humanity. Resistance from the humans was futile, and so the three battle-hardened girls, Empress, Dead Master and Strength, succumbed to the hordes of robots.

In 2062, 20 years later, Empress awakens in an underground laboratory without memories. She meets the siblings Norito and Miya, but their acquaintance is cut short because the three soon become the target of several robots. Thanks to an AI-equipped motorbike, they soon meet the resistance army and learn that it is at war with the AI Artemis and its robot armies. Empress, on the other hand, was once part of a group of girls specially created to fight machines – the so-called Hemitheos Units.

Empress is now facing difficult times because she can neither remember past times nor is she up to fighting. She and the resistance army have to deal with a cult called the Educational Institution, which enslaves, tortures and ultimately kills people. Empress’s old companions, Dead Master and Strength, soon turn up too, but there is no question of reunion: Both seem no longer to be themselves and really want to get at Empress …

Die Welt wurde praktisch vernichtet, als ein Projekt zur Automatisierung zahlreicher Arbeiten mächtig nach hinten losging; die zentrale KI des Projekts kam zum Schluss, die Menschheit besser auszurotten. Widerstand seitens der Menschen war zwecklos, und so unterlagen auch die drei kampferprobten Mädchen Empress, Dead Master und Strength den Horden an Robotern.

Im Jahr 2062, also 20 Jahre später, erwacht besagte Empress in einem unterirdischen Labor, jedoch ohne Erinnerungen. Sie trifft auf die Geschwister Norito und Miya, doch das Kennenlernen fällt kurz aus, weil die drei schon bald zum Ziel etlicher Roboter werden. Dank eines mit KI ausgerüsteten Motorrads treffen sie bald auf die Widerstandsarmee und erfahren davon, dass diese sich im Krieg mit der KI Artemis und deren Roboterarmeen befindet. Empress hingegen gehörte einst zu einer Gruppe von Mädchen, die speziell für den Kampf gegen Maschinen geschafften wurden – den sogenannten Hemitheos Units.

Empress sieht nun schwierigen Zeit entgegen, denn sie kann sich weder an vergangene Zeiten erinnern noch ist sie kämpferisch auf der Höhe. Sie und die Widerstandsarmee bekommen es vor allem mit einem Kult namens Educational Institution zu tun, der Menschen versklavt, quält und letztendlich umbringt. Empress’ alte Gefährtinnen, Dead Master und Strength, tauchen auch bald auf, aber von Wiedersehensfreude kann keine Rede sein: Beide scheinen nicht mehr sie selbst zu sein und wollen Empress regelrecht ans Leder …
